Hi, New Readers From Skin Deep! Also: Statistics!

Hi, new readers!

How are you?  I hope you like my comic.  I’ve been making Nwain for over a year, yet I’m still new to the webcomic world and still full of newbish dread.  I wonder if that feeling will ever go away…?

But enough about me.  Let’s jump to a much more interesting topic: statistics!

I recently bid on a Project Wonderful ad on Skin Deep.  Project Wonderful is a site that lets website owners auction ad space on their sites, and ad-space-wanters to bid on specific spots.  As a webcomicker who wants more readers, this is a great deal for me.  PW allows me to choose exactly which site to put an ad on.  That means I can put an ad on another fantasy comic, like Skin Deep, and help support a comicker like Kory Bing!  Nice.

Anyway, here’s some crunchy numbers!

Overall, this one ad did a lot of good!  I believe I can safely say that I’ll buy more ads in the future.

Chapter 2 Starts Now

Nwain: The Knight Who Wandered Dream is heading into its second chapter!

I’m glad I made it this far on this silly project.  I originally began doodling a masked lady knight on my notes at art school.  Post-graduation, I worked on my comic to stave off job-hunting-induced depression.  The solid update schedule kept me on my toes, and I enjoyed drawing more than anything else (it’s way more fun than job hunting).  At this point, I intend to complete the comic no matter my employment level.  Working on Nwain makes me happier and less grumpy. I hope my comic makes other people happier and less grumpy, too.

Asking For Help: It Works

Asking For Help: It Works published on No Comments on Asking For Help: It Works

Hello, Readers!

You may have noticed that the navigation bar in the comic now displays the page number.(or title). Yay!

I had wanted it like that for ages, but had no idea how to start.  I procrastinated.  Eventually, I got up enough courage to figure out where in the code the changes needed to be made.  I discovered it’s all php in there, and I don’t know a lick of php.  Darn.  How frustrating–and yet, what a relief.  I now had a great reason to ask for help. (Not that I didn’t before, I was just stubbornly hopeful that I could do it on my own.)

I’m using a plugin for wordpress, called Webcomic, made by Michael Sisk.  This is the plugin that generates the links for those little navigation arrows, and it’s used by webcomics the world over. Mike answers questions about it all the time, so that made it easy to figure out who to ask.

I asked for help, and I got it.  Hooray!

Hi everybody!

For the past half a year, I’ve been working with some friends to make a game.  It’s called Spirit Siege, and it’s a card collecting strategy game.  I’ve been doing effects animation–when the dragon shoots a fireball, that’s my fireball.

The kickstarter launched today!  It’s already doing well, and I’m really excited for it!
